IT staff threaten to go on hunger strike

By Our Staff Reporter

Bangalore Aug. 16. While the Income Tax Department is trying to make things easy for taxpayers, some officers of the department are unhappy with the idea of outsourcing certain services.

The Income Tax Employees' Federation and Income Tax Gazetted Officers' Association have threatened to go on a 24-hour hunger strike on Monday, followed by a "walk-out" from their offices on Tuesday. Besides opposing the decision to outsource data entry connected with the processing of tax returns, they have also demanded promotions at all levels and release of new recruitment and examination rules.
