India denies Pak. charge

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 19. Pakistan's allegation that India was operating 55 terrorist camps on its soil is "one more figment" of Islamabad's imagination, according to the External Affairs Ministry.

"One would have chosen not to comment on this absurd allegation, but for the mindset it reveals...the more Pakistan makes such wild allegations, the less we and the international community believe that it is serious in dealing with its responsibility to end cross-border terrorism," the Ministry spokesman said today. "We would again wish to underline that Pakistan should think, act and speak responsibly to make full use of the opportunity offered by Prime Minister (Atal Behari) Vajpayee's initiative to improve relations between India and Pakistan, an objective to which Pakistan's Government should show as much commitment as its people seem to have begun to show."

2 Pak. babies treated

Two Pakistani babies, one 90 days old and the other nine months old, have been successfully treated at a Bangalore hospital. Announcing this today, the External Affairs Ministry spokesman said that the cost of medical treatment for Talha and Abdullah had been borne by the Government of India as promised on July 24. As per the July 24 decision, the Centre had decided to fund the travel, stay and medical treatment of 20 Pakistani children.

Both Talha and Abdullah, operated upon for heart ailments (like Noor Fatima on July 15), have been "successfully treated" at the Narayan Hrudayalaya Hospital and are likely to be discharged soon.
