Letters to the Editor
Sir, The maximum productive age of a cow is only 10 years, but its average life is 20 years. There is acute fodder scarcity in India. When it is difficult to feed the productive animals, who is going to feed the unproductive cattle if cow slaughter is banned? S. Manoranjitham, Ranipet, T.N. * * * Sir, Those who favour cow slaughter should look at the misery of the hapless creatures. Existing laws on preventing cruelty to animals lack strict enforcement. Besides cows, many animals are battered, mutilated and killed everyday. Shame on a country which is depicted as the land of ahimsa. It will be better if existing laws are enforced than introducing new legislation. Yamini M.V., Thiruvananthapuram
