Letters to the Editor
Sir, One of the oft-repeated charges against the AIADMK regime of Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu by the DMK chief and former Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, is that her Government is destroying the `Dravidian' philosophy nurtured by `Periyar' E. V. Ramaswamy Naicker and C.N. Annadurai. What `Dravidian' philosophy is he talking about? The philosophy as enunciated by `Periyar' did nothing except ridicule everything held dear and sacred by Hindus, and unleash a hate campaign against a particular community. It had little impact on the neighbouring Dravidian States. As for the so-called `rationalistic' philosophy of these leaders, it is directed only against the Hindu pantheon of gods and goddesses. K. Vedamurthy, Chennai
