Third Front concept yet to gain ground, says Bardhan

By Our Staff Correspondent

Belgaum Aug. 20. The CPI general secretary, A.B. Bardhan, told newspersons here today that the concept of a third front was yet to gain ground at the national level. The whole idea was that the fate of the country should not be left in the hands of the Congress or the BJP. ``The people should not think that there was no alternative. The third front would allow entry of new forces''.

This concept was yet to mature at the national level but in several States, efforts would be made to defeat the BJP to deny it any further opportunity to continue its "communal rule," he said, adding that in West Bengal and Kerala, the Left would lead the charge. In States such as Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, was a strong force and may join hands with the Congress and other secular forces.
