Sir, The colour photo on page one (Aug. 17) of WP-class steam locomotive number 7015 displays the majesty of steam while the engine seems to challenge the overhead electrification wire network in a cock-a-snook stance. This broad gauge, Pacific-type, steam loco came to India during 1958-59, in a batch of 20 machines. Locomotive number 7015 also hauled the Railway's very first Heritage Steam run on April 16, 2002, in Mumbai during the celebration of the 150th year of introduction of railway transport in the subcontinent. Between 1949 and 1957, more WP machines were purchased from Baldwin and Austrian Wienner Lokomotivfabrik-AG Florisdorf. The import of these machines stopped after the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works started making similar engines.
G.D. Patwardhan,
