Auto driver held, murder mystery solved

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI AUG. 21. The police claimed to have solved the mystery behind the murder of a woman at Perunkulathur on Sunday with the arrest of an auto driver of the same area.

According to personnel of the Peerkankaranai police station, Vijaya was found murdered and her body was partially burnt at an isolated spot near her house on Tiruvalluvar Street at Perunkulathur.

According to V.Arjunan, DSP of Madipakkam sub-division, they fixed their suspicion on one of the auto drivers in the stand at Perunkulathur. Investigations revealed that 20-year old Murugan was noticed late on Saturday night taking Vijaya in his vehicle. It is reported that he had offered to drop Vijaya at her home, who was returning after fetching water. Murugan is reported to have confessed during interrogation that instead of dropping Vijaya at her home, he took her to the deserted spot and killed her.
