Heavy rain lashes A.P.

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD AUG. 22. Heavy rain lashed several parts of the State for the second day on Friday as an off-shoot of the low pressure area present in the Bay of Bengal. There was a virtual downpour at more than 20 places. Makthal and Bhadrachalam reported about 10 cm each, while the rain was intermittent elsewhere in the State. It was more than 2 or 3 cm at many places.

For the first time, the outbreak of the wet spell was evenly spread out in all the regions, changing the situation overnight and brightening agriculture prospects. The Met Office said the low pressure area was likely to become "well-marked'' and keep up the pace on Saturday-Sunday also. The Government kept the entire Telangana region, barring Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Mahabubnagar districts and Krishna, Guntur, and East and West Godavari in Coastal Andhra under alert, in the wake of the "isolated heavy rains'' forecast. Collectors and Irrigation officials have been asked to keep a watch on tanks prone to breaches.
