COIMBATORE: PSG College of Technology is to be entrusted with a research project under which the pulp of tender coconut (without water) would be converted into particleboard and plywood. According to C. Chandran, Chairman, Coir Board, the board has already approved another project by the institution under which it had developed a platform-mounted mobile de-fibreing (husk into fibre) unit. This unit could be taken to various parts of the coconut belts such as Pollachi and used effectively. The board is also considering a project by the Southern India Textile Research Association for evaluating the property of the coconut fibre so that it could be used as the "lead thread".
