Addressing mediapersons after attending a function organised by the Kerala Police Housing Cooperative Society to felicitate children of police personnel who performed well in public examinations here today, he said standardised bomb suits would be provided to the police personnel of the bomb detection squads in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. He said that preliminary reports on the bombs discovered from KSRTC buses in Kochi and Kozhikode revealed that the explosives were not planted by extremists. He said a career-guidance centre would soon be opened in Thiruvananthapuram, aimed at bettering the performance of children of police personnel in professional and Civil Services examinations. An amount of Rs. 3.5 crores had been earmarked for bettering the working conditions of the police attached to local stations, he said. On the Marad issue, he said the police were confident of giving total protection to those who wanted to return to the area from the rehabilitation centres. Bridging the mental gap between the two communities concerned was beyond the control of the police, especially since many persons in the accused list had relatives staying in the area, he said.
