Arjun Singh the winner of the TNGF-KONE Open golf tournament in Chennai on Saturday.
After leading for three days, Mukesh Kumar from Mhow saw his game fall apart when it mattered most. The pressure got to the experienced man who was leading Arjun by three strokes after three rounds. He shot a poor two over 74 on Saturday and ended up third. Digvijay Singh was runner up after a last round 71. Arjun took home Rs. 1,62,000 and Digvijay was richer by Rs. 1,12,000. Arjun's four round aggregate was 268, 20 under par and the best anybody has done on the Cosmo-TNGF course _ a fact that also reflects the progress made by the course itself. Each year the winning score is shrinking. With six birdies on the front nine, Arjun was in the driver's seat and he played it safe on the way back when he had two more birdies. The best came on the fifth where his tee shot was a little to the left of the fairway. He managed to chip within 10 feet before putting for a birdie. ``I thought I had to shoot a 66 or a 67 to get there. My only goal was to go as low as possible. I was helped by my putting which was exceptionally good today,'' said Arjun. B. Gurunath won the amateur event with a four round aggregate of 294. He shot a fourth round 73. Top 10 pro scores: 268 - Arjun Singh; 273 - Digvijay Singh; 275 - Mukesh Kumar; 277 - Uttam Singh Mundy; Harmeet Kahlon, Rafiq Ali; 280 - Ashok Kumar, Gaurav Ghei; 282 - Vijay Kumar; 283 - Binod Pandey.
