Youth urged to join Army

CUDDAPAH Aug. 23. The Superintendent of Police, Vijay Kumar, on Saturday laid a wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial here and flagged off a cycle rally by personnel of the Madras Engineering Group and Centre, which proceeded till the police parade grounds.

Speaking on the occasion, he exhorted people not to resort to attacks and commit offences in a fit of rage, but imbue thoughts of peace. He had a word of praise for his men, saying that they were ``service-oriented.''

The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, called upon unemployed youth to join the Army. Lamenting that the percentage of people of Cuddapah in the Army, Navy and Border Security Force was nominal, he said the district administration was providing pre-recruitment training to youth to prepare them for it. The Commandant of 30 Andhra NCC Battalion, G.S. Sandhu, said that people of the district were hesitant to join the Army.

The MEG team leader, R.R. Deshpande, said the Army offered employment, educational, medical and sports facilities. He said the rousing reception in the district could not be forgotten.

The Brown Library secretary, J. Hanumath Sastry, the City Citizens' Association president, S. Seetharamaiah, the District Sainik Welfare Officer, C. Mani, the Additional SP, T. Narasinga Rao, the regional Deputy Director of Information, K. Rampulla Reddy, the deputy DEO, Yella Reddy, the Lions Club president, Lakshmi Reddy, the Zion College correspondent, K. Rajarathnam Isaac, several officials, NCC cadets, scouts and boys and girls of various schools participated.
