TD leaders see need for introspection

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR Aug. 23. Several district leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) got down to some real talk and stressed the need for introspection at the party's extended district committee meeting held here today. They also called upon the party rank and file to be united to face the Opposition.

The Vice-Chairperson of the Zilla Parishad, Ch. Obi Reddy, pointed out that the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had assured immediate sanction of Rs. 11 crores for the Dharmavaram branch canal earlier this year, but it had not materialised so far. He asked party leaders to impress upon the Chief Minister for immediate action in this regard.

Stating that farmers of Kurnool district were being supplied sunflower seed on subsidy, the former legislator of Uravakonda, P. Keshav, demanded that it should be supplied in Anantapur district too. He noted that scanty rainfall had prevented cultivation of groundnut in a large area. He also sought measures for mitigation of drinking water problem in rural areas.

The district president of the party, V. Hanumantharaya Chowdary, opined that the Food-for-work programme and drought pensions should be continued in the district keeping in view the continuing drought conditions.

Rebutting the Congress' charges of corruption against TDP leaders, the Gooty legislator, R. Sainath Goud, and the former chairperson of the Anantapur Municipality, V. Prabhakara Chowdary, asked the Congress to stop misinformation campaign against the TDP.

The legislators -- Paritala Ravindra, K. Jayaram and A. Saradamba, the DCCB Chairman, S. Suryanarayana, the DCMS Chairman, T.D. Keshava Reddy, the APSRTC Zonal Chairperson, P. Samanthakamani, and the State observer of the party, A. Raju Naik, participated.
