Professional courses admission: HC lifts stay

Mumbai Aug. 23. The Bombay High Court today lifted its stay on admission to the professional courses in Maharashtra and ruled that admissions to the medical courses would be only through the State-conducted MH-CET, while those for the engineering would be through a centralised admissions process based on the merit list.

Hearing a bunch of petitions, a Division Bench ruled that the admissions for the engineering course would begin on August 27 and those for the medical would commence from September 3.

After the Government completed the admission process for the State quota in medical courses, colleges will grant separate admissions for students on the remaining vacant seat of the State quota and the management quota through the MH-CET, the Bench ruled.

The court also ruled that there would be a uniform fee structure for the management quota which will be decided by the respective colleges subject to the approval by the high court-appointed committee.

The colleges will have to submit their fee structure to the Government within a week.

The Government will further approve it in a week which will be finalised by the high court.

In the minority institutions, the court said reservations would be applicable for the admissions to all the seats.

The fate of the students already granted admission in few medical colleges will be decided by the high court on August 27. — PTI
