GFCL clarification

HYDERABAD Aug. 23. The Godavari Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (GFCL) has clarified that it has not decommissioned its ammonia tank following pressure from the A.P. Pollution Control Board.

Reacting to a report about gas leak in Visakhapatnam, a GFCL spokesman said the plant's ammonia tank had been regularly inspected since its inception in 1988 and operated safely. Due to reduced production in the first quarter of the financial year, the company was not storing ammonia at its Visakha terminal as reported in these columns, the spokesman added.
