Monsoon becomes vigorous

Hyderabad Aug. 23. Yesterday's well-marked low pressure area over the west- central Bay and the adjoining north-west Bay moved inland on Saturday and lay over interior Orissa and adjoining Chattisgarh.

The State Met Office director, C. V. V. Bhadram, said the low pressure area would move in a westerly and north-westerly direction and weaken.

Under its influence, the South-West monsoon became vigorous in Telangana and active in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. According to a forecast issued by the State Met Office, the rain would continue in the State on Sunday also.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely tomorrow in Telangana region and Krishna, Guntur and East and West Godavari districts, which have been alerted.

Most places in Telangana will receive light to moderate rain as also many places in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.

Record amounts of rainfall was received by some places during the 24-hour period ended this morning. Eturu Nagaram topped the list with 17 cm followed by Parigi 14 cm and Tandur 12 cm.

The other chief amounts of rainfall were: Nizamsagar, Vikarabad 11 cm each; Ramagundam 10 cm; Dundigal, Suryapet 9 cm each; Kaleswaram, Peruru 8 cm each; Hanamkonda, Chevella, Macherla, Piduguralla, Miryalaguda, Sanigaram 7 cm each; Adilabad, Macherla, Jagtial, Manthani, Mancherial, Mandasa Nagarjunasagar, Repalli, Sattenapalli 5 cm each and; Bapatla, Hakimpet Airport, Atchampet, Chintapalli, Medchal, Sircilla and Srisailam each 4 cm.
