Bullet was fired at my compartment: Chandra Shekhar

Ballia Aug. 23. The former Prime Minister, Chandra Shekhar, today said a police official had told him that someone had fired a bullet at the air-conditioned compartment of the Magadh Express in which he was travelling from New Delhi on Friday evening.

``As soon as the train left Sahibabad station, there was an explosion near my window. A police official informed me that someone had fired a bullet.'' He did not expect ``an insensitive government'' to inquire into the incident. The SPG security provided to him had been withdrawn without informing him and even the police personnel deployed for his security were frequently changed, he alleged.

The Ghaziabad police had said on Friday that a stone was hurled at the window of Mr. Chandra Shekhar's compartment.

Meanwhile, the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, enquired about Mr. Chandra Shekhar's well being on phone, sources said. — PTI
