Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad

By Our Special Correspondent

New Delhi AUG. 23. The Cabinet today approved a proposal for holding the first Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad from October 24 to November 1 following a recommendation by the Afro-Asian Games Council.

The Games, scheduled to be held in Delhi from November 3 to 11, 2001, were cancelled following the September 11 attack in the United States, and rescheduled to be held in Delhi from October 24 to November this year. In the meantime, during the 32nd National Games in Hyderabad last year, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, suggested that the Afro-Asian Games could be held in Hyderabad since world-class infrastructure had been created there. The Council in-charge of the Games considered the proposal and decided to accept the suggestion.
