New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter
In fact, the manner in which the rural population descended at the newly built Rajiv Gandhi stadium in their colourful attire, was an indication of the fact that mobilisation had been done at the ground level. The tag of an official function notwithstanding, it was clearly a Congress show all the way. And if the effort was to prove a point, then certainly the organisers had been able to successfully assemble a huge crowd in comparison to the East Delhi rally held on August 9. But this time round, the Delhi Government and the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, had done their homework well. A professional instead of a political person handled the stage and there were no political speeches except for those of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. But truly the Congress MLAs from Outer Delhi were happy that the show, for which they had worked very hard, had gone off well. ``It is a rally befitting the Congress president for which all have worked very hard,'' remarked the Nasirpur MLA, Mahabal Mishra. Another feature of the show was the assembly of thousands of school children carrying the national flag in their hands and shouting "Jai Hind''. The children had seated themselves in the stadium and when the Congress president inaugurated it, they released hundreds of balloons depicting the colours of the national flag giving the atmosphere a festive look. The rural women had also come in large numbers to hear the Congress president speak and she did not disappoint them by raking up issues concerning the rural people and farmers. The Congress president lavished praise on the Delhi Government and the party for organising such a grand show. Incidentally, the Finance Minister, Mahinder Singh Saathi, and the Power Minister, Ajay Maken, were seated among the crowd. But credit should certainly go to former Outer Delhi MP, Sajjan Kumar, for mobilising crowds and personally overseeing preparations to make the rally a success. Mr. Kumar has once again displayed his organisational skills, pushing into the background the East Delhi rally of the party and also the Parivartan Rally of the BJP. In fact, the AICC incharge, Ahmed Patel, was the main force behind this show highlighting the fact that if the party worked unitedly, it would have no problem in facing the challenge thrown by the BJP and other rivals.
