Letters to the Editor
Sir, Kudos to Jyoti Punwani's "Changing face of Pune schools" ( (Aug. 22) ), highlighting the success story of a Muslim girl from a Pune slum. The Muslim community, which is caught in a vicious circle of illiteracy and backwardness, needs more people like P.A. Inamdar.
Sultan Mohiddin,
* * * Sir, Those who are running minority educational institutions must learn a lesson from Mr. Inamdar. I am thankful to Ms. Punwani for bringing such a person to light.
Syed Khader,
* * * Sir, There must be many like Mr. Inamdar who are working for the emancipation of the poor without any publicity. By providing one such person a platform, The Hindu has done a commendable job.
Vishal V. Jadhav,
* * * Sir, Hats off to Mr. Inamdar for dedicating his life to a cause. And my salutation to Ms. Punwani for her brilliant portrayal of the movement. The results are yet another proof of how strong will power can change the deepest paradigms of a society.
Lokesh Kumar,
* * * Sir, It is heartening to read about the achievements of the Anglo Urdu High School. The contribution and cooperation of local Hindus is equally noteworthy.
Kasi Alagappan,
* * * Sir, I wish to share the information that Maryam Ahmad, a middle-class girl from Pune, topped the Pune zone with 95.6 per cent marks in ICSE-2003 exams and bagged a rank at the all-India level.
Tabishul Haque,
