BJP hits out at Sonia

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 24. The Bharatiya Janata Party today attacked the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, for repeatedly alleging that the Government had failed to respond to the nine "charges'' made by her against it during the debate on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on August 18 and 19.

The party general secretary and spokesperson, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, said "Indian politics is not a Hollywood film where every written dialogue could be taken so seriously that it has to be replied to.''

Mr. Naqvi's emphasis was on the "written speech'' by Ms. Gandhi during the debate and his charge was that her speech writers did not have the `intellectual ability' to tell the Congress president about the full impact of the National Democratic Alliance Government's rule over the last five years. "India's strength, prestige, pride and image'' had risen all over the world, he said.

If Ms. Gandhi wants answers to her "charges'' then she should be ready to share a public platform with senior BJP leaders, he said.

Referring to a speech by Ms. Gandhi, the spokesperson said that the party does not practise "black magic'' as alleged, but has a "magical stick'' of "nationalism and glorious achievements'' which will help throw out Congress governments in States going to polls later this year.
