MCC bandh hits rural Bihar, Jharkhand

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA AUG. 25. The joint bandh called by the two naxalite outfits, MCC and PWG, in Bihar and Jharkhand had its impact in the rural areas and affected movement of vehicles on the highways and trains in the Howrah-Delhi section on a major scale today.

Ahead of the bandh call given to protest the lynching of nine of their supporters over a fortnight ago in Longo village in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, police killed an MCC functionary in Chatra district yesterday. Today, 22 alleged PWG activists from East Singhbhum and Ghatshila districts were taken into custody.

The rebels damaged the railway communication network at Gurpa in Gaya district in Bihar early this morning delaying several trains, including the Rajdhani Express, on the grand chord. A goods train engine was set ablaze near Mangrahat on the Garhwa-Barkakana section under Dhanbad division halting train services in Jharkhand.

Services in the Patna-Gaya line and the Danapur division were also affected through disruptive methods.
