Letters to the Editor
Sir, I was hurt after reading Bollywood's secular image (Aug. 24). The author says that, in the past, there were limits to Bollywood's secularism and that an Amar would fall in love only with a Rekha, an Anthony with a Nancy and an Akbar with a Mumtaz. He cites movies such as `Gadar' to say that they indulge in Muslim-bashing. `Gadar' reflected the reality of the times the trauma faced by Muslims and Hindus during the Partition. If Yusuf Khan sang `bhakti gaan' written by Shakeel Badayuni, Amir Khan also sang `bhakti gaan' written by Javed Akhtar and composed by A.R. Rahman in `Lagaan.' It is time we stopped criticising the new trend.
