Salman gets a reprieve

MUMBAI SEPT. 3. In a major reprieve for the Bollywood actor, Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court today dropped the serious charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against him but ordered that he be tried for rash and negligent driving in a hit-and-run case.

Hearing Salman's appeal against a lower court order, Justice V.M. Kanade held that Section 304 (part two) IPC, that deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, was not applicable in this case and ruled that the actor be tried under Section 304 A of the IPC, i.e. for rash and negligent driving, and other provisions of the law. — PTI
