Vamsadhara in spate

SRIKAKULAM SEPT. 6. With the Vamsadhara in spate the Srikakulam district administration has begun evacuating people in low-lying areas of Kotturu and Hiramandalam mandals and other vulnerable areas. Water has entered Vasapa in Kottru mandal, Komanapalli in Hiramandalam mandal and the Revenue Divisional Officers were asked to evacuate people, the District Collector, K Vijayanand, told The Hindu. A control room has been set up at the Collectorate here.

Following heavy rain in the catchment area in Orissa, officials have been alerted right from the morning.

The inflows in the river had increased considerably and all the crest gates lifted and about 1 lakh cusecs of water was being let off into the river, he said.
