Advani to inaugurate Parkal memorial

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR SEPT. 6. A memorial for the martyrs of the Parkal mutiny, who fought against the rule of the Nizams, will be inaugurated at Parkal in Warangal district by the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, on September 17, the Union Minister of State for Commerce, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, has said.

Talking to newspersons here today, he said as part for the State BJP's endeavour to bring the history of the struggle for independence from the rule of the Nizams to light a memorial was being constructed at Parkal. Thousands of people had gathered there on September 2, 1947 to hoist the national flag, when tens of people were killed at the hands of soldiers of the Nizam.

Besides, statues of the heroes of the independence struggle for integration of the Nizam State with the Indian Union would also be installed in various villages in the area, he said. A souvenir would also be published with the details of the martyrs, other heroes of the independence struggle and their families.

Mr. Vidyasagar Rao said the State Government had been neglecting the issue in spite of repeated requests made by the State BJP. Their effort was to rekindle the history in the minds of Telangana people, he said.

The BJP would also bring out another souvenir soon on the people of Byranpalli in Warangal district who had put up a brave fight against the soldiers of the Nizam when they attacked the village and killed 96 soldiers. They were also buried on the battleground.

He also remembered Shoebulla Khan, a journalist who used the might of pen against the Nizam rule. He was attacked by the Nizam's soldiers and was injured for exposing the regime. Mr. Vidyasagar Rao said he had personally visited a few newspaper offices in Hyderabad and requested the managements to display the portrait of Shoebulla Khan as a mark of respect to the undaunted scribe.

The State president of the BJYM, Naresh, the Kadiri MLA, M.S. Parthasarathi, the district president of the party, V. Pundareekaksha Reddy, and others were present.
