Letters to the Editor
Sir, Rajindar Sachar in his article "Abolishing the death penalty" ( Sept. 4 ) has failed to make out a case for abolishing capital punishment. Even capital punishment is inadequate to meet the ends of justice in some cases in India. Human rights activists should show greater sensitivity to the victims' rights. M. Jameel Ahmed, Mysore, Karnataka * * * Sir, Capital punishment should not be abolished. Already it is awarded only in the rarest of rare cases. Instead of hanging by the neck, electrocution or administration of lethal injection can be chosen as a mode of execution. K. Pradeep, Chennai * * * Sir, The article is most informative and aptly concludes with the quote "the death penalty is as inhuman as the crime which motivates it". R. Narayanaswamy, Secunderabad
