Replacing English

Sir, — I refer to Murli Manohar Joshi's plea to do away with English medium (Sept. 5). English cannot be replaced without paying a price in the fields of science, technology, medicine. Even otherwise, it would be a mind-boggling task considering the number of regional languages we have.

Sir, — One reason for our supremacy in the field of computers is the knowledge of English. Even the Japanese and the Chinese have realised the value of English and started learning it.
