Sir, I refer to the article "The fast breeder reactor"( Sept. 17 ). The U.S., the U.K., France, Japan, Germany and Russia have all experienced serious safety and decommissioning problems and abandoned this route to generate power. The reactor's designed life is about 30 years but the decommissioning cost is estimated at four times the construction cost, spread over 100 years plus to make the site reusable.
