'Kashmir, most dangerous dispute'

By Sridhar Krishnaswami

UNITED NATIONS Sept. 24. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has invited India to join his country "in a sustained dialogue" to resolve the Kashmir dispute. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Gen. Musharraf said Jammu and Kashmir had been rightly described as the "most dangerous dispute" in the world and that a just solution of this dispute held the key to peace and security in the region.

"I am glad that India has stepped back from its dangerous and failed experiment in coercive diplomacy last year," Gen. Musharraf said adding that despite some improvement in the "atmospherics", India "continues to suppress the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people to exercise the right of self determination and in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolutions".
