Police officer killed in blast

Kolkata Oct. 11. A police officer was killed and four policemen on patrol with him were injured when suspected naxalites blasted their jeep with a powerful landmine in Purulia district on the West Bengal-Jharkhand border today.

The DIG of Police (HQ), N.C. Ghosh, said here that officer-in-charge of the Bandwan police station, Nilmadhab Das, on way to Madhyuban, 72 km from Purulia, died of splinter injuries suffered in the blast, suspected to be the handiwork of either the Peoples War or the Maoist Communist Centre near Katajhora. — PTI
