Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to Inder Malhotra's article, "VHP's specious logic", (Oct. 23). It is only the `secular' media and the politicians who give undue importance to the utterances of the VHP leaders who do nothing but issue hollow threats. Protecting a disputed site is alright but actions such as diverting trains and disrupting normal business are most undesirable.
M.C. Joshi,
* * * Sir, All criticised the VHP leader, Praveen Togadia's threats of communal violence but few criticised the counter-threats issued by some Muslim leaders. Why? In any civilised society all forms of violence have to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
M. Raghunarayan,
* * * Sir, It is unfortunate that the Ayodhya issue has relegated to the background social issues and problems relating to development.
Nasruddin Khan,
* * * Sir, The Mulayam Singh Government's handling of the VHP is a lesson for all States. Such a mindset could have prevented the demolition of the Babri mosque and the Gujarat riots.
A. Sadiq Bukhari,
