Move on POTA

Sir, — The proposed ordinance on amending POTA is a mere eyewash to please the BJP's NDA partners. If the Government really intends removing the flaws in the existing Act, it should make suitable amendments that will prevent the States from using the Act as a weapon against their opponents.

T.S. Padmanabhan,
Chennai

Sir, — The proposed amendment to the draconian POTA is welcome. It has failed to curb terrorism in the country; it has been used to settle personal scores. There are enough laws in the land to fight criminals and terrorists.

D.B.N. Murthy,
Bangalore
