Increase conviction

Sir, — I refer to the increasing incidents of rape in the country. Enhancing the punishment for the crime will not be sufficient. The conviction rate will have to increase. And for this, victims should be encouraged to report such cases. It is also necessary to change the mindset of society, which ostracises the victim instead of the culprit. We have a long way to go before we can boast of making the world a safer place for women.

Mridu Bhandari,
New Delhi
