Ill-feeling in the name of religion decried

CHENNAI NOV. 13. People should not harbour ill-feeling in the name of religion, the AICC secretary and Member of Parliament, T. Subbarami Reddy, said here today.

Calling upon countrymen to work together for the progress of the nation, Dr. Reddy said; "in this land of Gandhi and Buddha, love and compassion should prevail over others. Human touch is the only permanent philosophy."

Appealing to the people to have a sense of pride in their culture and heritage, Dr. Reddy, who has turned 60, said he would devote time to nation-building and social service.

Dr. Reddy was participating in a function organised by the Andhra Social and Cultural Association here.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, N. Ram, describing Dr. Reddy as a multi-faceted personality, said that instead of turning the focus on himself, the MP had chosen to honour 60 cultural figures in different centres of the country for their contribution.

The Tamil Nadu Governor, P.S. Ramamohan Rao, who presented shawls to the artistes, wished Dr. Reddy a long life.

S.D.N.R. Wadiyar, member of the erstwhile Mysore royal family and MP, said that Dr. Reddy's role in the construction of the Nagarjunasagar dam in Andhra Pradesh was widely appreciated. The L&T Deputy Managing Director, A. Ramakrishna, and AVM Saravanan, film-maker, said that Dr. Reddy was known for providing immediate help to the needy.

Film directors K. Balachander and K. Vishwanath, actresses Anjali Devi, Jayachitra and Manjula, playback singers P.B. Sreenivas, S. Janaki, P. Susheela, Jikki and Vani Jayaram, music director M.S. Viswanathan and actor, Kaikala Satyanarayana, were honoured.
