Textile row hots up

By P. S. Suryanarayana

SINGAPORE Nov. 21. China has summoned the U.S. Ambassador in Beijing to protest against Washington's decision to impose quotas on the import of three specific textile products from China.

The U.S. Ambassador, Clark Randt, was summoned twice in the last two days in the trade dispute under the "safeguard rules'' of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The U.S. Commerce Department said on November 18 that it would seek a "negotiated resolution'' over the alleged market disruption caused by the way China exported the products.
