Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the report "Police facing contempt action in Serijabanu case" ( Nov. 22 ). The Madurai City Police Commissioner's statement in the Madras High Court that the arrested women were not produced before the magistrate (in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines) before being taken into custody because he apprehended that he would not get police custody for them is appalling. An officer of the Indian Police Service is expected to implement all the laws in letter and spirit and set an example to his subordinates.
