Travel woes

Sir, — The Railways try to keep the stations and compartments as clean as possible. Reservation facilities are hassle-free and tickets issued much faster. But unless the travelling public cooperates with the authorities and acts responsibly, all the steps taken by the authorities are rendered futile.

A majority of the travelling public does not pay heed to instructions in railway compartments such as `do not smoke if co-passengers object'. The authorities should make sure the rules are enforced. As for the slogan, `less luggage, more comfort', it seems to have no impact.
