Communal unrest

Sir, — It is very sad that communal disturbances should crop up in the Old City of Hyderabad after a lapse of five years, resulting in the imposition of curfew.

Media reports show that there were no untoward incidents till 6 p.m. on December 6. Maybe a little more alertness on the part of the authorities till the morning of December 7 could have avoided the loss to life and property of innocent people.

B. Vishwanatha Rao,

Sir, — The photograph of Muslim children holding black balloons in Mumbai to protest the Babri Masjid demolition is highly disturbing.

Do the children really know what they are protesting against? If seeds of hatred are planted in young minds, they will grow up spreading communal disharmony and discord.

R. Thiruvengadam,
Chennai

Sir, — Every year, elaborate precautions are taken to prevent untoward incidents on December 6. Is not the demolition of the Babri mosque part of history now?

T.S. Krishnamoorthy,
Muscat
