By S.R. Ashok Kumar

CHENNAI, MARCH 20. An orchid flower was christened `Dendrobium Amitabh Bachchan' when the Bollywood legend was in Singapore recently, as brand ambassador of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA). He had gone to promote the IIFA weekend, which will be held from May 20 to 22. The awards function will also be held there.

To mark the occasion held at the National Orchid Garden, Mr. Bachchan planted a sapling. The Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, Lim Neo Chian, and the director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Chin See Chung, attended the function.

Mr. Bachchan thanked Mr. Lim ``for his kind words on my approachablility, friendliness, warmth and that I am always smiling. I would like to say that I have picked this from the Singaporeans I have met during my visit here. Singaporeans are always willing to help and are always smiling."

The hybrid orchid is robust and free-flowering. The full-grown flower will be 60 cm long and has a diameter of 5 cm.
