Panthers Party to contest 5 seats in J&K

NEW DELHI, MARCH 21 . The National Panthers Party, a constituent of the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, will contest five of the six Lok Sabha seats in the State.Announcing this, Sanjoy Sachdeva, president of the party's Delhi unit, told reporters today that the party would field candidates for all the seats in the State except Ladakh. The party president, Bhim Singh, would contest from Udhampur. "Our party allied with the Congress and the People's Democratic Party only after the Assembly elections. Our understanding with them was limited to the common minimum programme for Jammu and Kashmir and there was no obligation for an electoral tie-up in the future," Mr. Sachdeva said.

The party, which has not won a Lok Sabha election so far, has four MLAs in the State.

The Panthers Party would also field candidates in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. It would field five to six candidates in Punjab, four to five in Haryana and three to four candidates in Delhi. It would release its election manifesto soon, Mr. Sachdeva said.He said the party has filed an application with the Election Commission seeking allotment of its symbol, `Bicycle,' to its candidates contesting in different States.
