Son of the soil, says Laloo

NEW DELHI, MARCH 21. ``Rahul desh ka ladka hai, usko jitayengey (Rahul is the son of the soil, we will make him win,'' quipped the RJD supremo, Laloo Prasad Yadav, here today.

He was responding to a question as to how he felt over the candidature of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat.

The RJD chief said ``Sonia desh ki bahu hasi (Sonia is the daughter-in-law of the country'' and rubbished all talk of foreign origin. ``There is no logic in such talk (of foreign origin),'' Mr. Yadav told reporters here.

In Mumbai, the Nationalist Congress Party president, Sharad Pawar, today welcomed the nomination of Rahul Gandhi.

The NCP supermo said he, however, would not be able to go to Amethi and campaign for Rahul because of his busy electioneering schedule in Maharashtra.

Both the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and he would jointly campaign in some of the constituencies in the State and address certain public rallies together, Mr. Pawar said.
