PDP, Congress field separate candidates
By Our Special Correspondent
SRINAGAR MARCH 22. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress have finally decided to field separate candidates for the Baramulla seat. The veteran Congress leader, Ghulam Rasool Kar, will fight the PDP's Nizamauddin Bhat in this constituency in the coming Lok Sabha election.
The senior vice-president of the Pradesh Congress, Abdul Gani Vakil, said that the high command was expected to announce the candidates for Srinagar and Anantnag as well. Since the PDP had ignored the ground realities and put up its candidate in the north Kashmir constituency, the Congress would contest all the three seats in the Valley, Mr. Vakil said.
Despite having more members in the Assembly, the Congress had given the chief ministership to the PDP. But the coalition partner had not paid any heed to the ground realities and the past performance of the Congress in the district, he said.
