Ready to ensure peaceful poll in J&K: CRPF
By Luv Puri
JAMMU,
APRIL 6.
The Central Reserve Police Force is geared to hold peaceful parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Sensitive polling booths prone to militant attacks have been identified, the CRPF Director-General, J.K. Sinha, said here today.
He was on his first visit to the State to review the situation and security scenario ahead of elections.
The role of the CRPF had become all the more important in operations within the State as it had started replacing the Border Security Force in countering insurgency.
Talking to presspersons, Mr. Sinha said: "Over 55,000 security personnel of the CRPF were deployed to ensure peaceful elections. Besides 40 battalions, eight battalions had replaced the BSF and 18 additional companies of the force had been deployed for election duty."
The 40 battalions were equivalent to 44,000 men, the other eight battalions comprised 8,800 men and 18 companies consisted of 2,430 men.
Mr. Sinha said: "We will come up to the expectations." The CRPF's record of human rights violation cases was negligible.
"There were hardly any cases against our men and even that small number of allegations, after investigations, were found incorrect."
