Sayeed loses Lakshadweep seat

KOCHI,
MAY 13.
P.M. Sayeed, the Congress candidate and former Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, lost the Lakshadweep parliamentary seat to Pookunhi Koya of the Janata Dal (United).
Mr. Koya won by a slender margin of 71 votes. The constituency has 39,033 voters out of which about 32,000 voters cast their votes.
Mr. Sayeed had represented the constituency 10 times consecutively. E.P. Attakoya Thangal of the Janata Party and Ameer Puthiyathanoda of the Samajwadi Party were also in the fray.
The margin of victory in the Lakshadweep constituency had been small on several earlier occasions.
