Good showing by RJD in Bihar

By K. Balchand

PATNA, MAY 13. The Rashtriya Janata Dal-led alliance today made a resounding come back in the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar winning 26 out of the 37 seats. The National Democratic Alliance, on the other hand, has fared badly with seven Central Ministers biting the dust.

Counting was not taken up in three seats — Repolling would be held in Bettiah and Siwan on May 24 and fresh polling has been ordered in Chapra on May 31. The RJD won 19 of the 23 seats it contested, while the Congress won three out of four and the Lok Janshakti Party four of the eight seats. However, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Nationalist Congress Party lost in Bhagalpur and Katihar.
