Government ready to examine complaints

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 8. The Government is willing to examine any complaints about the allocation of one acre of land within the Technopark to the Taj Group for building an economy class hotel, an official release issued by the Industries Minister's office said here on Tuesday.

The release said there was time for people to point out any deficiency in the lease agreement signed between the Technopark and the Taj Group. A final decision on transfer of land would be taken only after examining the complaints, if any. The hotel was proposed to be built for the benefit of the companies in the park as demanded by them, it said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Technopark, N.R. Mahalingam, said the hotel was proposed as ancillary services in the park. The hotel, to be built by the Taj subsidiary, Roots International, was not a five star hotel. The Taj group was building a similar hotel at ITPL in Bangalore.

Mr. Mahalingam said the land was allocated to the Taj group at a higher price of Rs. 30 lakhs. No concession was being given. There was no rule that land at Technopark would be given only for IT units. Land is allocated to companies seeking more than half an acre of land subject to the condition that they should have minimum turn over of Rs. 50 crores annually. The Taj group was eligible for allocation of land as per this condition. The land is allocated on a 25-year lease. As it was not an IT unit, concession relating to the stamp duty would not be available for the Taj.
