Dhananjoy case: Kalam consults Attorney General

NEW DELHI,
JULY 6.
The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, today held consultations with the Attorney General, Milon Banerjee, on the case of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, the death row convict lodged in a Kolkata prison, whose mercy plea is yet to be decided by him.
Informed official sources said the President was understood to have discussed with Mr. Banerjee the Union Home Ministry's report on the second mercy petition of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, awaiting execution for almost a decade.
The Home Ministry is said to have turned down the mercy petition of the prisoner and recommended accordingly but the President is yet to decide.
