Drought relief sanctioned for three States

NEW DELHI,
JULY 14.
The Government today sanctioned over Rs. 100 crores as drought relief to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Uttaranchal (for last year) even as a sub-group was formed under the Agriculture Secretary to consider relaxing of norms for allocating funds for such calamities.
A relief of Rs. 70.77 crores was sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh, Rs. 3.24 crores to Uttaranchal and Rs. 28.53 crores to Kerala.
The relief was sanctioned by a high level committee (HLC) on assistance from the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF), which met here today under the Chairmanship of the Food and Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar. The meeting was also attended by the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, the Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
