Unhealthy practice

Sir, — I refer to the decision of the Tamil Nadu Opposition to boycott the budget session of the State Assembly. What is the use of having MLAs if they do not participate actively in discussions and debates involving the State?

The rule that allows an MLA to just sign the attendance register and keep off from attending sessions is arbitrary. Will any employer pay an employee who just signs the attendance register? In the case of MLAs and MPs, the `employers' are the people who elect them.
